Green wall maintenance

A living wall is a complex system — plants, irrigation, hardware, nutrients. This guide is for homeowners and facilities leads who want to understand what goes into keeping one healthy in Kuwait.

What a green wall actually needs

Monthly irrigation flush and emitter check — calcium from Kuwait's hard water blocks drip lines within 6 months without this.

Fertigation (fertiliser-in-water) refill every 4–6 weeks.

Quarterly pruning, leaf cleaning, and plant replacement rotation.

Annual system audit — pump pressure, moisture sensors, controller settings, structural integrity.

What you should never DIY

Don't adjust the controller timings without a horticulturist — wrong irrigation cycles kill plants faster than any other variable.

Don't replace plants with species from a nursery that weren't part of the original palette — mixing substrate needs will destabilise the wall within weeks.

Don't use tap water in the fertigation tank — hard-water calcium precipitates with most commercial fertilisers and blocks lines.

What you can watch for

Brown patches appearing within 2–3 weeks of install = transplant shock; should resolve.

Brown patches appearing after 6+ months = a specific emitter is blocked or a specific zone is under-lit. Call us.

Puddles at the base = drain line clog or over-irrigation. Call us same-day if visible.

Musty smell = fungal issue in a damp pocket. Requires professional rebalancing.

Seasonal considerations

Summer (Kuwait's hottest months): evaporation is high. Irrigation frequency typically increases 20–30%. We adjust controller settings at the May and October visits.

Winter: growth slows; we reduce fertigation concentration. Watch for plants that bloom in winter (Peace Lily) and either trim or keep depending on the aesthetic brief.

Our maintenance contract

Monthly visits (or bi-weekly for installations over 25 m²), full plant replacement warranty in year one, fixed KWD pricing with no surprise charges. Single point of contact — the same team that installed the wall.
